hate those times when you know you need to do something, but feel too tired to do it, and yet you know that even if you don't do it now, you're still going to have to do it anyway. so you'd just better do it now.

it's been a busy week, what with science focus and all that.

made bittersweet deception (chocolate mousse cake), vanilla bean cupcakes with raspberry swirls, raspberry swirl ice cream, vanilla bean pound cake. got a bit sick of chocolate this round, decided to stay away from it for a while, like a chocolate hiatus.

the raspberry swirl ice cream disappeared within a day and a half after it was churned - i only got to eat one scoop. the vanilla bean pound cake's gone too. one time i made a flourless hazelnut chocolate cake just before i went overseas (for a pretty long time), and when i came back, my maid told me she ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner - and she finished it. which was quite amazing.

want to try out peach ice cream, and more fruit-based desserts sometime. my uncle wants his mango ice cream.

the nus science focus lectures on tuesday were really interesting - about parkinson's disease and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), plus another one about forensics, of which we saw some pretty disturbing photos and heard several less than pleasant stories. calida kept saying i look traumatised. the lecturers were good though, engaging and interesting.

today was a full day programme, did PCR in the morning. jess, two rv girls and i did the gel electrophoresis together - and our group's results were good! the control had negative results, and there were clear bands for DNA 1 and DNA 2.

afternoon was rmbr and confocal microscopy. only got to see less than 1/4 of the museum in that 1 hour, but the person who gave us the tour was really cool. she knew lots of interesting info and had many stories to tell. confocal microscopy was less interesting, though the video we watched about fluorescence was very clear, and i understood more about the topic - which is going to be useful for ee. now i know why bacteria with GFP can absorb blue light but fluoresce green.

the past few days have been tiring. can't wait to leave for europe - nice cold weather (aka winter coats, scarves, wind-burnt ears, and utter gratefulness for a hot drink), different kinds of food (although more expensive), and of course, having the opportunity to explore another country.

(plus no labwork.)

speaking of labwork, i am supposed to do something for ee - the thing i know i have to do whether or not i do it now, or in europe. so i'd better do it now.

next year's going to be crazy-crazy-crazy. and it's my fault. darn.

i wonder why i didn't listen before.
